Beschreibung:
  • Rewettings and renaturation of the peatlands (fens and bogs) as a contribution to climate protection: The peatlands store about 550 billion tons of carbon in the form of peat, which corresponds to about 30% of the global soil carbon on only 3% of the earth's surface. The release of this C storage through cultivation on peat soils is one of the greatest climate sins. Rewetting of peat areas and agriculturally used or drained peat soils can greatly reduce the emission of climate-damaging gases (CO2, CH4, N2O) or in some cases even contribute to C storage. Wet culture (paludiculture) enables the further use of moorland. The most important measure, however, remains the preservation of the moor areas that exist in all humid areas worldwide.
