Simultaneous model building and source localisation - a 3D synthetic case study

  • Within the scope of this work, we propose an automatic localisation and joint velocity model building scheme for passive seismic data in 3D. Unlike many other source localisation procedures the only a priori information it requires is the locally constant near surface velocity. The velocity model is gained via wavefront tomography, which is based on automatically estimated first and second order wavefront attributes and simultaneously evaluates the source locations. We illustrate the feasibility of our proposed workflow using a synthetic 3D example obtaining maximum location errors in the magnitude of the dominant wavelength.
