An international convention was arranged on the occasion of the third centen- ary of the Mathematische Gesellschaft in Hamburg, organized in cooperation with the Departments of Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, and the Com- puting Center of the University of Hamburg. The Mathematische Gesekhaft is considered to be the world’s oldest existing mathematical society: it was founded in 1690 by a group of masters of the Hamburg guild of mathematicians. The nine sessions included a session on History of Mathematics, which was organized by Jeanne Peiffer, Paris, and sponsored by the Hans-Schimank-Stif- tung, Hamburg.
