Weltausstellungen versammeln Wissen auf paradoxe Weise: trotz ihrer seit Beginn konstatierten Ineffizienz, trotz der Selbstkritik von Weltausstellungsmacher*innen besteht das Format fort. Wir suchen nach einer Umdeutung dieses Weltwissens, die eine emanzipierende Auseinandersetzung mit der Welt fördert, wie sie in pandemischen und klimakatastrophischen Zeiten notwendig ist.
Against all Odds: Assembling the World. In search of world knowledge for world’s fairs in the twenty-first century World’s fairs gather knowledge in a paradoxical way: despite their acknowledged inefficiency and the self-criticism of world exposition organizers themselves the format continues to exist. We are looking for a reinterpretation of a ›world knowledge‹ produced at these events that promotes an emancipatory confrontation with the world, in a way that is necessary in pandemic and climate-disastrous times.
