Beschreibung:
  • Climate warning signal: health risks from heatwaves: Heat-related mortality is considered to be a key climate risk posing a threat to human health. It affects older people in particular, as well as people with pre-existing health conditions or from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Extreme heatwaves and their corresponding mortality and morbidity effects are becoming more frequent as a result of climate change. While long-term adaptation measures such as urban greening and air conditioning mitigate parts of the impacts, extreme heatwaves in tropical latitudes could lead to future regional uninhabitability.
