Recently a large variety of evaluation criteria have become necessary prerequisites in academia to allow for proper dis- tribution of (e.g., financial) resources. While many fields have quite some history in evaluating their research in vari- ous directions this does not seem to be the case for the field of machine translation (beyond some effectiveness mea- sures). In this paper we raise some questions in this respect while performing some initial steps regarding a scientomet- ric analysis within the field of machine translation based on some common publications.
