In fiber composite structures failure often occurs at the load introduction. Therefore, these points are reinforced by the addition of material, which how-ever increases component weight. The paper presents how detailed simula-Tion models as well as new design possibilities through additive manufacturing can be used for structural improvements of the load introduction into honey-comb sandwich structures. A structural optimization is performed. It is found that the initial and boundary conditions for the optimization have a strong influence on the product design. Therefore, different optimization approaches are compared. Numerical results are validated by experimental tests.
