History cultures today utilise materials in a variety of different forms in terms of their technical and their cultural mediality, both of which have impli- cations for the presentation of (narrative) interpretations, conclusions and judge- ments, for their distribution and change, as well as their chances for and ways of reception by „users“. The article explores some basic conditions of storing and using historical material for societal discussions on history in the digital realm, especially in social media, and discusses implications and necessary consequences for history education.
