The field of attribution research and its relationship to society: Extreme event attribution research establishes a causal link between climate change and individual extreme weather events such as heatwaves or flooding. This makes it particularly relevant in society, for example for the media, politics and for litigation. In an interview study, we investigated the question of how involved and critical climate scientists see their role, and that of their research, in society.
