Blood pressure and mimical interaction were continuously recorded in three groups of eight hypo-, normo- and borderline hypertensives. Situational blood pressure elevation was taken as stressindicator and membership of blood pressure group as indicator of a chronic stress coping style. Different mimical behaviors were expected to be associated to the different coping styles. Results show, that borderline hypertensives ’mimically freeze’, especially when under high stress, and that they have a small mimical repertoire. Hypotonies showed the biggest mimical repertoire. Hypo-, Normo- and borderline hypertensives received different ’mimical treatment’ by their interviewers: Especially when under high stress the borderline hypertensives were confronted with a ’mimically rejecting’ interviewer.
