Beschreibung:
  • Are tropical cyclones becoming more dangerous? According to most analyses, the number of tropical cyclones has decreased over the last 100 years, while the proportion of particularly strong storms has increased. According to model forecasts, this trend will continue in the 21st century. The causes of these changes include both natural and anthropogenic processes, which are often difficult to distinguish from one another. Global warming appears to have increased the threats posed by tropical cyclones so far and will continue to do so in the future according to most projections. Scientifically based measures should be taken at an early stage to combat climate change and the destructive power of tropical cyclones.
