This dissertation is a case study on the phenomenon of interconfessionality and its aspects in the life and work of the early modern Greek ecclesiastical scholar Gerasimos Vlachos from Crete (1607–1685). The research question to be investigated is the group of factors (political, ideological, social – historical, intellectual, religious) that influenced and defined Vlachos’ perception of his contemporary Christian confessions in the 17th-century Venetian Republic and the early modern Latin Europe.
