- In this film, Dr Bidur Bhattarai presents how cleaning measures can be carried out for manuscripts and artefacts. Dust is a major enemy as it provides nesting material for insects, and it is an incubator for mould spores and a focus for acid precipitation. Using soft brushes or a variable speed control HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) vacuum removes substances such as dust, mould, and insect and rodent remnants that might eventually damage manuscript folios or that might be transferred to other folios during use. --- This series of short films offers brief and accessible introduction to Nepalese written artefacts, exploring their diversity and uniqueness in terms of writing, supports, materials, forms, and texts. It is initiated and produced by Dr Bidur Bhattarai, Coordinator of the project ‘Preserving the Written Artefacts of Nepal’ based at the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures at Universität Hamburg. The project is generously supported by the German Foreign Office and the Gerda Henkel Foundation.
