The Western Balkans are characterized by about 500 years of common cultural history with very different developments since the 1980s. The common cultural history holds special potential for the consideration and separate interpretation of different developments, such as the influence of wars, but also the different socio-economic developments of the Western Balkan states. This article examines the persistent educational disparities in the Western Balkans resulting from the political and historical context and affecting the postwar generation. By analyzing historical legacies and structural factors, this article sheds light on the origins and persistence of unequal access to resources and the related emergence of educational inequalities.
