Beschreibung:
  • Control and regulation of CE as a challenge for law, politics and society: This chapter identifies challenges in integrating climate engineering (CE) into existing climate policies and outlines the extent to which CE options could, at worst, even weaken climate mitigation efforts by allowing organizations to succumb to the temptation to view CE as a substitute for emissions reductions. We also explain the current state of CE regulation and CE research, and how CE is fundamentally different from "classical" mitigation measures. Based on this, we discuss what guiding principles would be needed to enable environmentally sound integration of CDR into the existing climate change regime. In our view, SRM measures cannot be reasonably integrated into the current regime.
