Beschreibung:
  • The digital world of data created new opportunities of connectivity and communication, information and participation, but also of visibility, surveillance and control. Citizens submit their personal data all the time, usually without being aware of the whereabouts or even the potentialities of their use. Research on acceptance of technologies qualifies for exploring the relationship between citizen and state in the context of control technologies - as long as it abstains from normative stipulations and instead inquires the social conditions of the creation of acceptance as well as the subject's modes of adopting such technologies. The article makes the case for a critical perspective that in this sense incorporates the moment of the political into social research.
