The total alkalinity of the water can be introduced into pure water by carbonates ( NaHCO3, Na2CO3, MgCO3) or Hydroxides (NaOH, Ca(OH)2, Mg(OH)2 ). There can be other forms of alkalinity in the seawater and organic-rich waters because other acid-base systems play a role in these waters. To make a simple, understandable video, I am neglecting the fugacity of the gas (assuming ideal gases). Furthermore, the temperature, pressure, and ionic strength dependence on the dissociation constants are neglected for simplicity. For more interested viewers, I recommend using my website and exploring more combinations of parameters.
