The generation and interaction of solitons in Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC) was discussed. It was observed that the solitons slow down significantly when the trap was opened. The stability of dark solitons under changes of the scattering length was analyzed. It was found that using cigar shaped condensates with a large aspect ratio, a conclusive signature of the soliton interaction was not observable. © Oxford University Press 2002.
