Ethnographic Writing

The lesson describes the first steps of ethnographic writing. Before writing, students have to read ethnographic texts and reflect on the different writing styles. To apply their knowledge, students observe an everyday social interaction (e.g., riding an elevator for 20 minutes) and write an ethnographic text about the experience. Peer group and instructor criticism of the texts helps students revise and improve their texts.
