  • Dr. NGUYỄN Phan Quế Mai (born 1973, Ninh Bình) is a celebrated Vietnamese writer and poet who writes in both Vietnamese and English. She has received numerous literary honors, including the Poetry of the Year 2010 Award from the Hanoi Writers Association and the Runner-up for the 2021 Dayton Literary Peace Prize. Some of her poetry, such as "My Fatherland is Calling My Name" (Tổ quốc gọi tên mình), has been set to music and widely embraced. Her English-language debut novel "The Mountains Sing" (2020) received five international literary awards, followed by "Dust Child" (2023), which won the She Reads Best Historical Fiction Award. Both works have been translated into German and published by Suhrkamp Verlag. Through her writing, Dr. Quế Mai offers deeply human narratives that explore Vietnam's complex history—from war and famine to resilience and cultural beauty.
