Beschreibung:
  • Ocean alkanisation: To remove CO2 from the atmosphere and store it in the ocean, the chemical composition of seawater is changed by adding minerals in solid or dissolved form. This process is called ocean alkalinisation. An increase in alkalinity in seawater leads to increased CO2 uptake, which can be achieved by various methods. The ocean gains alkalinity naturally through weathering processes of minerals. Ocean alkalinisation can be seen as an acceleration of this natural process and is a promising method to remove anthropogenic CO2 from the atmosphere.
