  • This chapter develops the concept of emotion repertoires and examines how it relates to institutions and organizations. Emotion repertoires are conventionally understood as collectively shared affective skills and dispositions. The prevailing understanding of emotion repertoires is expanded by addressing the institutionalization of these emotional competencies through targeted programs and practices, reflective procedures, and (semi-)scientific curricula. Special emphasis is placed on the deliberate production of these skills, in which their goal-oriented nature is stressed by the term “fabrication”. Using mindfulness programs as an example illustrates how and why organizations like corporations or associations fabricate emotion repertoires. Thinking with emotion repertoires not only spotlights an increasingly common social phenomenon but also foregrounds the ways in which contemporary emotion culture and its emphasis on emotional reflexivity manifest and entrench themselves in social life.
