Environmental and climate damage caused by wars and geopolitical risks: Military, arms and war pollute the environment and emit around 5.5% of all greenhouse gases, making climate extremes and ecocides more likely. The wars in Ukraine and Gaza cause enormous emissions, especially for the reconstruction of massively destroyed infrastructures. Options for a carbon-neutral and resilient energy system and the consideration and reduction of military emissions in climate negotiations are discussed.
