  • The impregnation of wood requires both internal and external quality control of the treated wood by means of analytical procedures. An important part of the analytical procedure represents the quantitative transfer of the analyte from the wood into the analytical solution. The aim of this brief original is to show that microwave assisted digestion (MAD) can be used as an alternative to conventional methods such as pyrolytic digestion. The results clearly indicate that the described MAD procedure represents a fast and suitable method to obtain analytical solutions. A further advantage of this measure is that the amount of material required for analysis can be reduced compared to known methods like pyrolytic digestion as described in DIN 52161-7 (standard digestion). © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
